Maura's Story

This is really an incredible story about Maura, our wonderful & solid driving mare. This terrific story was sent to me last year by a 19 year old girl who lives in Germany. It really has touched us here at the barn and so I asked permission to share Jesse's e-mail with the rest of you. I hope you enjoy it and are as amazed and blessed by it as we are. Thank you, Jesse, for sharing it with us.

"Dear Mrs. Myer,

I am writing to you from Germany. I'm a girl 19 years old and I used to ride
your horse Maura when she was owned by ... a family in ... Germany.
I spent many happy hours with Maura and that's why I started looking for her new home. I was just wondering how she is.
Maura means a lot to me because I believe without here I might not be here
anymore.
In 1998 I was at a competition with Maura but unfortunately when I was
waiting for my turn to ride a thunderstorm came down. I wanted to get Maura back into the trailer but she stopped right in front of it. That was weird because she never had had any problems with going in there. Just in that moment lightening struck right in front of us. I could see the grass being lifted up and I believe that if Maura hadn't stopped just where she did I would have been standing at that very spot. Afterwards she walked into the trailer without hesitation by the way.
So maybe you can understand why she means so much to me.
I really spent many hours on her back and they were maybe some of the
happiest of my life."
